Hawaiian Party Theme Ideas

The luau or Hawaiian party theme is best held on the beach during a nice sunny day. If you live nowhere near a beach, you could also hold it in your back yard or at a local park. You should have a surf shack or beach bar as your centre piece.

The Hawaiian theme party is traditionally all about the music, dancing and eating nice food.

The costume is extremely important for this theme. The ladies have it best with floral armbands, grass skirts, lei necklaces, coconut bra’s, sandals and flowers in their hair.

The ladies have the better outfit for this theme i’m afraid to say. Guys should wear that awful Hawaiian print t-shirt from their wardrobe with matching shorts. I would also go with flip flops or sandals, sunglasses and possibly a flowery necklace.

For the setting, consider some or all of the following; beach balls and net, sea shells and coconuts scattered around, hula hoops with a possible instructor and a limbo stick. The limbo is a great game to play when everybody is drunk later on.

For food, I would consider creating a tropical fruit centrepiece and allow your guests to skewer or tooth pick their own selection from grapes, cherries, mangos, pineapples, melon and peaches etc. I would also look into making some seafood delicacies (budget dependant).

The best thing would be to hire a cocktail maker and have him shake up the drinks from the beach bar (budget dependant). Otherwise you can provide menus for your guests to make their own Aloha’s or Hawaiian Heartbreakers. Get some small umbrellas to top off the cocktails.

Finally I would play Ska music with a supply of present hits, as Ska is not to everybodys taste.
